Our first semester has shown a remarkable beginning to Helen O'Grady South Central Saskatchewan and we want to thank you for entrusting your child with us. It is so much fun working with the kids and we can already see transformations in their confidence level from when they began the program.  We would like to pass on a comment from a parent:

"Hi, I just want to say what a wonderful program you have. My 8 year old son is on the Autism Spectrum and has moderate-severe social anxiety. He tends to be alone and will not go around other children...except for your program. Ever since his first class...he keeps talking about going back. Now...we don't get much out of him about what he does during the class but it must be something memorable and meaningful to him. Thank you so much.. all of you involved.!"

OUR PROGRAMS:

KINDY DRAMA (Ages 3-5)

Our Kindy Program has been developed by experts in early year development. Young children learn to take their first steps into our fast-moving world with confidence. The key to this is to allow children opportunities to develop skills in verbal communication. Highly creative classes involve storytelling, dramatic play, speech training, creative movement, songs and language development activities, all based around a central theme.  Important life skills our Kindy children learn include; listening, sharing, taking turns, following instructions, memory skills, vocalizing thoughts and emotions.

PRIMARY PROGRAM (Ages 5-8 and 9-11)

We believe the Primary years are crucial in buildinga positive approach to life. Introductory activities develop spontaneous language work and ad-lib skills, teaching children how to role play, speak in full sentences, and be spontaneous. By doing so, young people become better at resolving conflict and handling situations that may come up in their lives. Speech work is always a very important part of the curriculum. Children are trained, in a fun way, how to use their voices effectively as a communication tool.

YOUTH THEATRE - Ages 12-17 (18)

Designed to accommodate pre-teens and teenagers, our Youth program offers further opportunities to students with a continued interest in drama. While the self-development aspect is continued in youth theatre, the approach is more theatre arts orientated. The varied and challenging program includes, voice work building improvisations, mini-scripts monologues, open ended duologues, soap operas, radio plays and theatre games.

WHAT WILL YOUR CHILDREN LEARN?

SPEECH WORK

Exercises include: Projection - training the children how to breathe and use the full power in their young voices. Jaw, lip and tongue exercises are used to develop good articulation. Resonance exercises help with the toneand richness of their voices. Expression exercises bring life and vitality to speech.

MOVEMENT AND IMPROVISATION

Children are taught how to use their bodies as an expressive tool, using music, through mime and creative movement. Through the Helen O’Grady method, children are able to take on a character, role-play and make up their own lines in a creative way, and learn how to sustain their language development, allowing multiple sentence flow.  At the end of the day this training helps children to become articulate and expressive public speakers.
