Saskatchewan Athletics promotes the sport of athletics* by facilitating the development and maintenance of effective programs which assists athletes, coaches, officials, and volunteers in a fair and positive environment.
"Athletics" includes track and field, cross country, road running, and race walking.
Run Jump Throw (RJT), the Athletics Canada grassroots development program for our sport, is designed to introduce children ages 7-12 to the FUNdamentals of running, jumping, and throwing skills using age appropriate sequential progressions. RJT utilizes Sport Canada's Long Term Athlete Development (LTAD) pathway of athletics and teaches the technical skill progressions for boys and girls. RJT builds physical literacy transferable to other sports and activities, and promotes a fun, safe, and active learning environment for children. Each RJT lesson is generally 30-45 minutes for an average class size and uses the RJT Equipment bag provided. RJT also includes progressions for older athletes, and can be adapted for children with special needs.
